Our market research indicates that 90%+ of all stoves sold and installed since 1995 are compatible with stoveLogic. From 1995 on, the vast majority of new stoves are secondary-combustion stoves — the design stoveLogic is built for. The remainder are catalytic stoves, multi-fuel stoves (such as wood-plus-gas), or exotic designs like pellet stoves and stoves with automatically controlled air intakes or flues.
If your wood-burning stove is 1995 or newer, has a blower fan (with a speed controller or an on/off switch), and is not a catalytic, pellet, or exotic design, stoveLogic will benefit it. Brands it works with include:
Yes — everything above applies to fireplace inserts. Inserts are, for the most part, wood stoves adapted to fit into a fireplace. If it burns wood, was manufactured after 1995, isn't catalytic, and has a blower fan, stoveLogic will be quite beneficial.
Most likely. The fan being original or added makes no difference. As long as your wood-burning stove was made after 1995 and isn't catalytic, pellet, or exotic, stoveLogic will benefit it.
A small set of stove types won't benefit — and a few should never be plugged into stoveLogic at all:
stoveLogic won't damage a catalytic stove, but it won't benefit it much either. Catalytic stoves — and catalytic-hybrid stoves — run on an entirely different efficiency window that stoveLogic isn't tuned to.
Do not plug a pellet stove into a stoveLogic unit. You're likely to ruin the stoveLogic, and there's a chance you'll damage your pellet stove's electronics as well.
Do not plug a gas or gas-hybrid stove into a stoveLogic unit. You're likely to ruin the stoveLogic, with a chance of damaging your stove's electronics too.
If your stove automatically controls its flue or intake-air systems, don't plug it into stoveLogic. You'll get no benefit, and you're likely to ruin the stoveLogic unit.
No — zero modifications. The only thing that touches the stove is a magnetic sensor that rests on the surface, exactly where a thermometer would sit. The firebox, the flue, and the fan all keep working exactly as designed.
No electrician, no tools. Plug it in, set the fan, and let it work.
No electrician, and it's extremely simple. Plug stoveLogic into the wall, plug your stove fan into stoveLogic, then turn the fan on and set it to full speed. Place the magnetic thermometer/temperature probe on top of your stove, switch stoveLogic on, and you're off. During the first burn there's a short calibration step — simple, but it does ask for a little interaction from you — and after that, just let it do its work.
Once. The first time your stove reaches operating temperature, a one-time calibration teaches stoveLogic the specific characteristics of your stove, tuning readings and fan response to your exact setup. It's simple, but it isn't automatic — it asks for a few steps of interaction from you. After that one calibration, it's hands-off.
Normal varies fan speed conservatively against the temperature profile to hold you in the combustion window and keep the burn clean — efficiency first. Max waits until the stove reaches temperature, then runs a more aggressive profile for the coldest days when you need every BTU.
Just unplug your fan from stoveLogic and plug it straight into the wall. You'll be back to running the fan by hand — but at that point you get no heat management and no overheat safety monitoring.
It means stoveLogic is powered and watching. Even in standby — with the fan off — it never fully goes off duty. The blue LED is its way of saying "I'm watching."
A thermocouple, a microprocessor, and a fully snubbed controller holding your stove in its sweet spot.
Using a thermocouple temperature sensor, a microprocessor, and a fully snubbed TRIAC controller, stoveLogic keeps your stove firmly centered in the high-efficiency temperature zone it was designed to operate in. It pulls out the maximum amount of heat without extracting so much that the firebox drops below that zone — and it monitors firebox temperature continuously, cooling the stove down if it climbs high enough to risk a chimney fire.
Most modern stoves use secondary combustion: a high firebox temperature plus precise injection of outside air ignites the smoke coming off the burning wood. That raises efficiency by 30 to 70 percent and drastically cuts emissions — but it only works once the firebox reaches roughly 1,100 to 1,300°F. Below that, the stove burns inefficiently and produces unburned carbohydrates and creosote — the flammable deposit in your chimney that raises chimney-fire risk.
The trick is to keep the firebox hot enough to sustain that clean, high-efficiency burn, then extract the heat above that temperature as usable room heat. Get too aggressive and you drive the stove back into inefficiency; don't pull enough heat and it can get dangerously hot. stoveLogic constantly balances all of these variables to deliver the greatest heat alongside the most efficient burn.
One of the best reasons to own a wood stove is that it keeps delivering comfortable heat even when the power is out. stoveLogic, however, runs on electricity and will not operate without it. If the power goes out there's no electricity to run the fan either — so the fan stops, and your stove simply delivers radiant heat the way any wood stove does.
It augments your judgment, never stops checking, and is built to fail safe.
That's the whole point. stoveLogic monitors the firebox 24/7 — it never gets distracted, never falls asleep, and never assumes the stove is fine without checking. It measures temperature continuously and responds in real time.
Even in standby, if the stove reaches a dangerously high temperature the fan kicks on automatically at full speed to bring it back into a safe range — even at 2 a.m. when you've forgotten the stove is still burning.
Creosote — the leading cause of chimney fires — forms when a stove runs too cold and smoke passes through unburned. stoveLogic is specifically designed to hold the firebox above that threshold, doing by automation what the most attentive owner can only do by constant vigilance.
stoveLogic is fully snubbed, meaning it isn't directly exposed to the AC power that runs your fan. If something goes badly wrong, the fault stays isolated on that side: if stoveLogic itself fails, it's simply broken — it won't affect your stove. (If the failure originates in the fan itself, you'd repair or replace the fan as you normally would.)
No. During normal operation you stay in complete control — the three-position switch is always right there, standby is one click away, and unplugging the fan hands control straight back to you. stoveLogic augments what you already know; it doesn't replace your judgment.
